A few MDI employees in Grand Rapids, MN participated in the 5th annual Stomp on Stigma 5K run/walk. Over 350 people came together to “Stomp on Stigma” and help raise awareness of mental health.
Individuals with mental illness are often challenged by the stereotypes and prejudices that result from misconceptions about mental illness. Because of this stigma people with mental illness are robbed of the opportunities that define a quality of life: good jobs, safe housing and satisfactory healthcare.
Proceeds of this event benefit organizations in Northern Minnesota like National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Shop with a Hero, Grand Rapids and Greenway Boys and Girls Club, Bridges Mentoring program and the Garret Bethke Foundation.
