MDI Hired Hands would like to thank the #Itasca County communities for their support of our recycling program over the past 25 years. The materials that were collected and sorted in our Deer River and Cohasset facilities provided jobs for many people with disabilities and gave them an opportunity to contribute to our community. However, since 2015, the recycling markets have changed due to a number of reasons beyond our control, and MDI Hired Hands is no longer able to sustain this part of our business. We eliminated the collection of recycled materials from the Itasca County transfer sites and our commercial collections in late 2019, and as of this week the Saturday drop off in Grand Rapids will be eliminated. Our relationship with Waste Management and Itasca County remains strong and we give special thanks to them both for being our partners and supporting our efforts.
Residents can take recycling to the Itasca County Transfer Station Monday thru Saturdays from 8:30-4:30, or any Itasca County canister sites based on their specific hours of operations. Additional information on the available recycling drop off sites in Itasca county can be found here: https://www.co.itasca.mn.us/573/Outlying-Canister-Sites
The good news is that all employees associated with recycling program have been placed in our plastics business where we make tubs and trays for customers all over the country. This side of our business is growing and currently we are seeking to hire additional employees for our plastics business due to a surge in orders. Open positions include assembly, process techs, printers and warehouse. While MDI is focused on providing jobs for people with disabilities, we have an inclusive workforce and are looking for people with or without a disability as we grow our workforce.
