As we celebrate MDI’s 60th anniversary, it’s a time to reflect on our journey and the strides we’ve made in fostering inclusive employment. This year’s theme, “Access to Good Jobs for All: Increasing Access & Unlocking Opportunity,” resonates deeply with our mission. A shining example of this is Drew, a dedicated member of our MDI family in the Twin Cities.
Drew joined MDI in 2022 and quickly demonstrated his enthusiasm for learning and growth. His time on the production floor has been marked by a keen willingness to take on new challenges and a commitment to mastering various roles. His proactive approach and eagerness to expand his skill set did not go unnoticed.
Last fall, we introduced the “Work Buddy” system to support our new contract employees. Recognizing Drew’s potential and his alignment with MDI’s core values, we selected him to be a Work Buddy. This role involved guiding new hires, helping them acclimate to MDI’s environment, and embodying our policies and principles. Drew embraced this responsibility wholeheartedly, becoming a role model for newcomers and positively influencing the production floor with his knowledge and dedication.
Drew’s impact has been profound. His supportive nature and deep understanding of MDI’s values have not only facilitated smoother transitions for new employees but have also reinforced the sense of community that defines MDI. His contributions reflect our ongoing commitment to increasing access and unlocking opportunities for all.
Recently, Drew expressed a strong interest in advancing his career further by becoming an MDI job coach. In response to his aspirations, we are actively collaborating with the Production team to provide him with additional resources and training. This initiative not only aligns with Drew’s professional growth goals but also supports our broader mission of offering inclusive employment opportunities.
